When a Tyre Can Be Repaired

British Standard BS AU 159 defines the conditions under which a tyre can safely be repaired. The puncture must be within the central three-quarters of the tread, the object must have caused a hole no larger than 6mm in diameter, and the tyre must otherwise be in good condition – no sidewall damage, no internal damage from being driven flat.

If those conditions are met, a proper patch-plug repair from the inside is safe and will restore the tyre to full service.

When It Can’t

Sidewall punctures, damage from being run flat, multiple repairs in the same area, and anything outside the repairable zone can’t be fixed safely. In those cases, we’ll tell you clearly and recommend the most appropriate replacement – not the most expensive option on the shelf.
