Wheel tracking – sometimes used interchangeably with wheel alignment – most commonly refers to the toe setting of the front axle: whether the front wheels point slightly inward (toe-in) or outward (toe-out) relative to each other. It’s a fundamental setting that affects tyre wear and straight-line stability.

Tracking vs Full Alignment

A basic tracking check measures front toe only. Full 4-wheel alignment, which we also offer using our Hofmann and Supertracker technologies, covers all four wheels and a wider range of angles. If your car has independent rear suspension or you’re experiencing issues beyond simple straight-line pulling, a full alignment is usually the more thorough option.

That said, a tracking check is a good starting point if you’ve noticed the car pulling slightly or front tyre wear that’s heavier on one edge.

When to Get It Checked

• After hitting a significant pothole or kerb
• When fitting new front tyres
• If the steering feels off-centre on a straight road
• As part of routine maintenance, roughly once a year is sensible
